Java Date

Do you know that feeling when you're going to meet somebody you look up to? That is, somebody you admire, somebody you want to be like and you've never seen them, however.

Well, I was meeting Kariuki Kimuyu aka Wakimuyu on this chilly Sunday evening. You might wonder who the heck he is. Wakimuyu is a writer/blogger who has a smooth way with words.

He writes his stories in such a way that you can feel the words making their way through your veins. He gives you a yearning for more of his  work. I personally think that Biko has nothing on him.

So, I make my way down Kimathi street from work. I'm standing at Nation center and it hits me that I'm meeting Kariuki Kimuyu. I should be nervous, I tell my self but I'm not.

I make my way inside the Java on Kimathi street and climb upstairs. I cant tell who he is with all the scattered unfamiliar faces in one place. I decide to sit down by the nearest table as this light skinned guy with a heavy black pull neck watches my every move.

I dial Wakimuyu's number and this light skinned guy smiles at me. I'm nervous now. I quickly walk up to him and he stands up to hug me.

He doesn't even know me and he is so casual with me. I could be a stalker or a con woman for all he knows and he doesn't care. Why doesn't he care? I question him. How often does he do this? I go on.

I find him half way his huge mug of lemon tea. I think it's to treat the cold that he is nursing or he just loves lemon tea. He helps me order house coffee and a samosa. The order comes and the samosa is filling up the plate. It's unlike any samosa I've ever seen, it's big, fluffy and looks juicy. My first thought is; my boyfriend/friends should try this with me next time I come to Java.

We talk about a myriad of things but all I want to know is how I can be like him. However, we don't have enough time. I conclude that he was just lucky or it must have involved alot of sweat and tears.

But now I realise, I don't have to be like him. We all express art in different ways. Just like Biko is good at what he does, Wakimuyu is still as good. And I can be exemplary too, I just have to better than I was yesterday. They all started from somewhere, still learning and still doubting themselves but they made it because they held on to their passion.

Enjoy Wakimuyu's stuff here http://www.kisauti.com/
