As a little girl, I thought I'd be forever young. It doesn't make sense but as a young girl I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be paying bills on my own or thinking about starting a home and having kids.
I still don't see the day when I'll be grey and weary, walking with the help of a stick but I know its coming. As scary as it is, growing up has taught me a number of things.
1. Love
I think the best lesson so far has been on love. To know what it means to truly love a person. To love someone unconditionally with patience. It doesn't matter what Kind of love as Ive come to learn that love comes in many forms.
Sometimes, it's not easy to be patient with people as we have different personalities and backgrounds but when we truly love someone, it's something we learn because we want the best for them.
I've also learnt that the moments we spend with people we love are fleeting. You never know what might happen tomorrow. You only realize that those moments were important when you look back. So, whenever you have the chance, say and do things to your loved ones that when you look back you will have nothing to regret. Tell them you love them and keep doing acts of kindness for them.
2. Work
On graduating, we all want the best job but I never thought I would find a stable, well paying job without having to sweat profusely or know a big name. However, I realized that, that was not important. We all start from somewhere. We don't have to have it all at once and that's where patience comes in.
I have learnt to work with patience and with all kinds of people. Sometimes success takes time and we have to fail several times before we can make it. And as we wait, we grow as a person and become more resilient and experienced.
I've also realized that money is not everything. If anything, it's the root of all evil. So I've learnt to focus on what's important; family and loved ones and manage the money I have even if it doesn't come anywhere close to a million.
Basically, I keep learning alot of things that I can't exaust in one page. But those are the major ones for now that all come round to patience, persistence and unconditional love. It's not easy to be that but I try because it's harder chasing after vanities.
